Lovers Point Coastal Access and Park
Lovers Point Park is an iconic landmark in Pacific Grove. Visitors to the Central Coast flock to the scenic open space, beaches, and sculptural rock outcroppings the park provides. Furthermore, it marks the terminus of a regional recreation walk and bike trail. To better route visitors to the downtown district of Pacific Grove from this point, a small park will be created as a landmark, place to view the Monterey Bay, relax and take photographs, and most importantly, be a wayfinding point. A series of seat walls will assist in providing an accessible route from the recreation trail to the street intersection that leads to downtown.
The design of the park also lends itself to modifying an adjacent parking lot to create more parking spaces. These efficiency improvements generate more landscape planting opportunities, create seating nooks along the trail, and opportunities for trail alignment improvements.
Other landscape features include integrating a sculptural art feature in the center of the park, using permeable pavers, using the landscape to hold and filter runoff from adjacent surfaces, using only Coastal California native plants, and using decorative hardscape treatments at specific street intersections to slow traffic for pedestrian crossing. The project is expected to be completed in early 2018.
